One of the key principles of democracy is to allow civilised voting and debate, so as to prevent a resort to violence in order to take the power you feel you deserve. Hamas WON THE VOTE last year, but were refused the power that the population of their country granted them by the US and EU etc, and subsequently resorted to (or continued to use) violence.
