Vision: Not New Technology

BBC NEWS | England | Beds/Bucks/Herts | Residents challenge Google camera
Angry residents in Milton Keynes blocked the driver of a Google Street View car when he started taking photographs of their homes.
This is fucking pathetic. If you're that scared of new technology why don't you sell up and live in a cave. Their only complaint seems to be that burglars could use this to look at their house and see if they have alarms or something. Perhaps they're not familiar with the old form of this technology, which is called "eyes". People with these instruments installed in their heads can travel to a location, point their head at an object and then "see" this object as the light passes through their eyes and is decoded by the "brain". Actually, now I think about it, this is incredibly dangerous and should be stopped immediately. BAN EYES!

While I agree with your second point, that this particular issue is absolutely ridiculous, I disagree with your first point. Not every technology which is newly developed is beneficial or harmless. Everything must be evaluated before it is accepted. If we just embrace all new technologies without questioning their purpose, etc we may quickly lose many privileges we enjoy today. As the days pass and technology improves, we sacrifice more of our privacy with very little question. Each concession leads to the next without considering where the road is taking us.

This particular situation, however, is funny at best.
