Not Informing != Offending

BBC newsreaders told to read out phone numbers to avoid offending the blind - Telegraph
The BBC has ordered news presenters to read out all telephone numbers and internet addresses which appear on screen so as not to offend blind people.
Words. Fucking. Fail Me. If you're blind and listening to the TV, and the presenter says "as you can see on the screen", then you don't know what they're talking about. It's not that you'd be offended, you wouldn't know what to be offended about because they have failed to transmit the information to you. Reading out URLs means everyone gets to join the fun, even those pesky blind people!

It's like if someone sent me an email in Italian. I wouldn't be offended, I just wouldn't understand and would ask them to resend it in a language/format that I can read.

People are very confused about the word "offended" these days....
