US Media

Crooks and Liars » Al Gore with Diane Sawyer

This interview is hilarious. Al Gore is asked on to talk about his new book, and the first question he gets is "don't tell me you're not going to run for President in 08", the tag on the bottom is "AL GORE ON THE ATTACK - Will he run for the White House?".

Gore attempts to detail how the media remains focused on celebrities and artificial controversies and cosmetic issues, and how this means political decisions and mistakes are made without "the people" really knowing what's going on. Diane Sawyer manages to COMPLETELY prove his point, by reading a sentence where he says the Iraq war was unnecessary, and then asks "so have 3,000 US soldiers died in vain?" He points out that that's a ridiculous question. It's a perfect example of how the US media try and distort peoples words by accusing them of being unpatriotic.

Some lowlights:

SAWYER: Again, not to come back to this and fall into your thesis that the press only wants the horserace of the political campaign, but one way…

GORE: But back to the horserace.

SAWYER: And what will it be that causes you to make that decision, if you’re waiting and watching?

GORE: Well, you know, I’m not pondering it, I’m not focused on that.

SAWYER: I just want to say, Donna Brazile, your former campaign manager, has said, If he drops 25 to 30 pounds he’s running. Lost any weight?

There's another bit where he's explaining about how Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 and everyone was lied to, and she seems a bit surprised and asks "so you think that would have changed the political climate back then" like, "I wonder, if someone is presented with the facts, rather than lies, might they make a different decision?". It's an interesting idea Diane and one I think you should pursue with further research.

It's like she literally doesn't care, Diane Sawyer is one of the people running America into the ground and it's like she knows it and she's proud!?
